Thursday May 20th - Day 2

We left the Blossom Hotel early for a full day of glorious gardens, a Castle, and afternoon tea.

Powis Castle, originally a fortress owned by the Welsh princes of Powys, was our first stop. The countryside is beautiful and the castle sits high on a ridge looking over lush terraced gardens. We were met by Adrian Lovet, the head gardener, who explained the history and design plan of the gardens. Some of us toured inside the castle while others explored the gardens.

We're off to the Members Only Day at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in London! We're taking the scenic route through the picturesque countryside visiting castles and gardens and lovely towns and villages on our way. A flight out of Dallas on Tuesday got us to Manchester, England this morning. We met up with a couple from Washington D.C. who arrived later than we did, but they're making the two week trip with only carry-on bags. They've learned the lessons of traveling light in their more than seventy-five years. By the end of this trip, more of us may be wishing we had their secrets.
