Stonehenge & Winchester Cathedral - Day 5

stonehenge
The weather is unbelievable and the gardens are spectacular while our history guides are to die for.  We have learnt so much about England, me too!!!!!  and how many times the cycles of ups and downs in the economy repeat themselves, and the nouveaux riches who are on the up and up ...always..........and how vulgarity then has turned into much admired charm.....
and the Bishop who copied the king and got Christopher Wren to build him a Palace too!!!!!  so much to see.....even the village and house they used for the home of Harry Potter!  and wonderful tales from the locals about the American GIs in the war and so it goes on.  Each day could be a story!
I honestly wish that every Good News Girl was with us and not just Barbara because this has been such a fantastic tour.
Gordon our driver is a prince among men.  He cleaned the windows of the coach today especially so that everyone could take photos of Stonehenge.  We passed at midday.  Looking at it from the height of the coach gave a fabulous perspective, and above the crowds. It looked wonderful against a back drop of the green wheat fields and mustard yellow fields of rapeseed.

Choral evensong in Winchester had some of the group in tears it was so very beautiful.................we were sitting in the choir for evensong, overlooked by 6 boxes containing the earthly remains of 6 kings from the 900s such as Ethelred the Unready, and Egbert, Ugbum......After the service, we met Kate Colson for a two hour tour. We saw the Great Hall and King Arthur's round table, Jane Austen's last home--where she moved to be close to her physician, the Bishop's Palace, and so much more.
I cannot wait to plan the next tour!
This is too much fun!
