Judy: Amy and Karla started the new year with a tap of the reset button. They went back to the toughest and most restrictive version of the elimination diet to verify their assumptions. They've zeroed in on several foods that affect the way they feel and sleep.
Karla and Amy: We were both traveling last week and it was tough! Restaurants for all meals is a hard way to stay on any diet and especially the Elimination Diet.
Snacks to keep on hand: plenty of fresh fruit (apples, pears), carrots, avocados (for making guacamole), hummus, rice crackers, rice cakes, crispy rice bars
Judy: This holiday season Amy and Karla have chosen to be spectators in the eating frenzy that grips almost all of us. They’re both so intent on the goal of feeling better that they make the determination to hold firm seem easy.
Judy: Holiday stress and hectic schedules have introduced some challenges, but Amy and Karla continue to pursue their goals. This week highlights the importance of eating pure foods so you know what you're getting during an elimination diet, and taking it easy so you remember to exercise, take your vitamins, and drink plenty of water. Amy and Karla have had to work doubly hard to make this elimination diet work with their busy lives. I am amazed at and delighted with their progress.
Judy: Amy and Karla told me that they're glad to be on the elimination diet through the holidays. It keeps them mindful of their eating and makes it easier to avoid the foods they know they don't need. I'm glad they feel that way. It can be tough to contend with holiday treats when you feel deprived. They are still focused on the goal and are realizing great benefit from staying focused.
Judy: Amy and Karla are juggling those busy schedules, travel, and now the food challenges. Keeping track and staying on course is difficult, but they've done really well. Eating in restaurants is actually easier than dining at the home of friends or family.
Judy: Deaths in close circles, busy schedules, and daily demands can derail the most determined dieter. Karla and Amy have both had tough weeks, but they stuck with their elimination plans.
Judy: Amy and Karla have made it through the elimination part of the process. Amy looks great and says she feels good, but her eczema continues to be a problem. Karla has loads of energy. She held up well during a stressful, busy week. Her psoriasis has improved a bit as well.
Judy: Amy and Karla have fallen into the rhythm of this food elimination plan. It may seem easier than they expected because there's no hunger and no emphasis on not eating. They have a mystery to solve and have taken the challenge.
Judy: Amy and Karla are doing great. They look good and seem to feel well. They are focused and determined. My job now is to help them find more menu options. Cutting out sugar, vinegar, soy, tomatoes, wheat, corn, and dairy can make the average weeknight recipe challenging.
