Award winning writer, producer, former model and fashion show director Harriet began her career as an eight-year-old actress in Houston, Texas. A graduate of the University of Texas, with a degree in Radio-Television and Film, she worked in advertising in both Houston and Dallas winning awards for her corporate branding and mini documentary productions. After a lengthy vacation from the stage, Harriet decided to perform again and listed with a talent agency in Dallas. Luck and work ethic would have that she became one of Neiman Marcus’ top runway models. Eventually the charm of turning circles on a runway diminished and moving up the ladder: she began writing and producing fashion shows for Giorgio Armani, Chanel, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, and others.

In 1999 Harriet embarked on a mission trip to Haiti. Through this trip her heart and mind were opened and broken in ways she didn’t know were possible. She left emotionally devastated. With the support of three other journey-women she founded a nonprofit committed to supporting school age children and women with micro enterprise loans.

Her family and career continued to grow as this millennium trudged on and the media reported darker economic times. Harriet decided to take a break from the traditional doom and gloom of the popular media. She could just not take any more of this bad news all the time. So, she decided to take matters into her own hands. She started with her closest friends and family: talking up good news and spreading the belief that good news means good health and a transformed world. Now, with the website up and running, she can say …”and the good news is,” THERE IS GOOD NEWS EVERYWHERE!

Christian Louboutin was in Dallas working with me to fit models and put the finishing touches on a Stanley Korshak fashion show for the Leukemia Society. It was 1998 and to the best of our knowledge, no one had ever produced a shoe fashion show in America before. We were making shoe history together.

Yesterday I wanted to change the world. Today I just want to lose weight. Why are some changes so hard to realize? Am I lazy, unfocused, undisciplined? According to brothers, Chip and Dan Heath, some significant changes are hard because the process to make such changes is exhausting. We are just too tired to follow through.

I used to wake up with a nagging sense of guilt and shame that I forgotten to do something or had left some stone unturned that needed my immediate attention. Did I forget to pick up my son at school, floss my teeth, write that overdue thank you note?

"It's in our nature to seek purpose. But that nature is now being revealed and expressed on a scale that is demographically unprecedented and, until recently, scarcely imaginable. The consequences could rejuvenate our businesses and remake our world."

In Daniel H. Pink's second best seller, DRIVE, the purpose driven life comes front and center.

Fashion is a classic art form that has the power to transform us. Like our human bodies, it is always changing, slightly elusive, and extremely seductive. It has the potential to express our deeper selves and for me, like many, it has become a religion.
packing lite
Wednesday, May 5th, 2010
What’s the true measure of a happy traveler? Speed and grace. A girl just can’t have fun if she’s weighted down by heavy suitcases bulging with wayward fabrics and uncooperative shoes. The first rule of packing for a trip this season is layering. The second rule is fabric content.

Women in the United States control and spend $4 trillion annually, which makes up two-thirds of our gross national product. Of that, $200 billion is spent in the fashion industry. Much of that spending is done in hopes of lifting ones' spirits and stemming the tide of emotional sadness and fear that creeps into everyone's life in challenging times. Unfortunately, spending sprees to lift one's spirits more often result in even greater anxiety, guilt and fear.

A healthy wardrobe helps inspire you to live the life of your dreams, or for those more practically minded, to do what you want to do in life. Managing your wardrobe isn't always easy and unexpected occasions arise that cause style strain if you're not prepared.

1. Know what you have:

Clean out your closet before you go shopping. Give away, throw away or contribute anything that doesn't fit, flatter or feel right.

fashion finance
Friday, March 19th, 2010
Fashion and Finance have more in common than first meets the eye. There are people who naturally balance their checkbooks and think nothing of living within budget. Some have the instinctive ability to be in style no matter how fashion trends buffet them. Others of us take classes, read books, seek out gurus, and sweat the details.

Sometimes it seems we spend forever in our closets staring at possible outfits. A new study reveals that, in fact, we squander almost a year of our lives deciding what to wear. From 14 minutes on weekends to 20 minutes before a big night out, that's a lot of wasted time. We try at least two outfits on average each morning before work. Wouldn't you rather have a leisurely latte?

Andrée Putman, the acclaimed French designer and interior architect, once said, "I love America, and I love American women, but there is one thing that deeply shocks me......American closets. I cannot believe one can dress well when you have so much."

smiling woman
Friday, January 29th, 2010
Something magical happens when a woman wears something she loves, whether it's a great pair of shoes, a tailored blouse, or a treasured necklace. Yes, she looks beautiful, but her smile also glows brighter and her steps become more powerful. While the right clothes and accessories make us lovely on the outside, that transformation is nothing compared to what happens inside.

Celebrity fitness trainer, "Beto" Perez, stumbled upon the concept of Latin-inspired dance-fitness in his native Cali, Colombia in the mid-‘90s. One day, he walked into his aerobics class and realized he had forgotten his aerobics music. Thinking quickly, he grabbed whatever tapes he had in his backpack. Beto's tapes were comprised of songs he loved, the traditional Latin salsa and merengue music he had listened to all his life.
