Julie resides in Dallas with her husband and two teenage children. She holds a BBA from University of Notre Dame, is board President of the Dallas Children's Theater, an active supporter of Suicide and Crisis Center, Mental Health America and other nonprofit organizations. She enjoys long distance running and just completed her first marathon last year at the age of 48.

Last October I went to Palo Alto, CA for my husband Ken's business school reunion. The trip allowed me to visit two friends from Octel Communications, both of whom have children at Gunn High School. Both hit me with the same news: four children from Gunn had killed themselves since the beginning of the school year.

Most of us remember our mothers touting the adage "You are what you eat." My parents ate healthfully long before lean meats and greens became fashionable. Dad exercised with military discipline. They also threw great parties, with delectable appetizers and plenty to drink. Their example left an indelible mark.
