day 14 lbd
Our trip from JFK to Nice took all day, but it was worth the journey. After all the weather forecasts we'd been watching for weeks featuring rain and chill temps on the coast, we arrived to full sunshine and mid-sixties temperatures. There are five of us traveling and I rented a large vehicle to hold us and our luggage. When we arrived at the rental place, all they had left was a scraped up 8 passenger van. I immediately panicked because I knew what to expect in the tiny villages. After a bit of push back and assurance that they had no other options, we pulled away in this monster van with scratches all over.

Our first hotel, Le Grimaldi, is in the medieval village of Cagnes Sur Mer, about ten minutes west of Nice. The streets are frighteningly narrow and I began to realize what a gift it was that the van is already scarred up. We have to suck our breath in when we make some turns. We're all wiped out and decided to eat at the hotel. Our expectations were fairly low as there was not a hint of aroma coming from the kitchen at 6:00. By 7:30 when we arrived for dinner, the smell of herbs and lamb raised our hopes. It was a lovely evening even if some of us struggled to stay awake through dessert. The LBD was superb with a black sweater and a lovely silk screened scarf.
