Day 16 - Nice is Nice in an LBD

We spent the day in Nice. Overcast and cooler than the forecast, it never rained and we had a great time. In the photos the sea and water look very much the same shade, but there's so much beautiful color in the ocean that in person, the difference was clearer. I'm always amazed by the stones on the shore of the Riviera. There's a little sand, but not much.

We wandered around watching the birds and the people--more birds than people this time of year. The Promenade Des Anglais is always bustling and today was no exception. My French seems somewhat better, but I'm still not doing that great. When I ordered a coffee today at lunch, the woman brought me the check.

We visited the famous Negresco Hotel, built in 1912, that serves as the home for traveling celebrities and dignitaries when they stay in Nice. My favorite place in Nice is the Russian Orthodox Cathedral just because it's so unexpected. Inspired by St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow, it was built in the early 1900s and served a large Russian emigre population along the Cote d'Azur.

For dinner we returned to Cagnes Sur Mer and went to a tiny restaurant called Entre Cour Et Jardin. Easily the best meal we've had this trip, and the room is warm and cozy with a fireplace and easy, witty service. If you ever find yourself in this area, be sure to make reservations--there are only eight tables and they probably stay filled up in season.

The LBD worked well with jeans and a black hoodie. I wore a bright scarf and good walking shoes. The extra warmth of the LBD was great in the cool morning.
