If you ever needed to think of a reason to be grateful for what you have, Denver Moore's story will provide all the excuses you need. His captivating tale of growing up in Louisiana, moving to Fort Worth in hope of a better life, and ending up on the streets left me feeling immensely grateful for the opportunities that I have experienced. By all accounts, Denver was a successful homeless person in a culture that probably evades most of us. I'm not sure I could have survived.Ron Hall's story might sound more familiar. College educated, financially successful, part of Dallas society, he lived the American Dream. He had an abundance of resources. Yet, something was missing, and he was losing his way.

I won't give too much away by saying that it was Ron's wife that brought them together. An amazing woman, according to a friend of mine who went to college with Debbie Hall and her sister. She pushed and prodded and annoyed the both of them until they talked, shared and eventually grew to be close friends.

Although non-fiction, this book reads like a novel. It's a compelling and gripping story of human beings living their lives the best they know how, growing to accept the differences and similarities in each other, and learning more and more about themselves in the process. Plus, it takes place in my own back yard. I love books that talk about places I frequent!

This book is often marketed as a Christian book, and it is. But it's more than that. For any of you reading this who would dismiss such a book without a second thought, let me just reassure you - it's not preachy. To me, there is a universal principal of humanity that emerges as the primary message. It's a lovely story, with sad parts and happy parts, and I very much recommend it for all people.

The good news is that Ron and Denver have a second book, recently published, called "What Difference Do it Make? Stories of Hope and Healing." I have not read this, but I hope you will read either or both books. Denver and Ron's stories of transformation and friendship are too heartwarming not to be shared.
