Then Came You by Jennifer Weiner

Kick off your sandals, grab a lemonade and an easy chair and settle in for Then Came You, a great book to read when you travel. Jennifer Weiner, who has been a bit off her game since In Her Shoes, has written a compelling book about what women really want. Jules wants to save her father, Annie wants to save her marriage, Bettina wants to recreate the family she had before her mother ran off with her yoga instructor, and India only figures out what she wants after she's lost it. The four women narrate their own chapters at first independent and separate and then intertwined.

Then Came You is serious without being grim. Dealing with matters such as infertility and surrogacy, drug addiction, and child abandonment, this book could be a real drag, but the characters have the integrity and authenticity to make it enjoyable. There's humor and insight along with these weighty issues. Even fun books need enough heft to make them worth reading.
