What's Your Favorite Wine?

It depends ...

New Age Wine Label
This is the most common question I hear when I'm meeting someone for the first time.  My answer is always "it depends".  It depends on several factors; what's the occasion for opening a bottle of wine, the food being served, whom I'm drinking with, my mood, my budget and the weather.

When the temperatures are in the high 90's, I steer clear of big bold reds.  It's the perfect time of year to select lighter and slightly fizzy white wines.  For our June Good News Girlz event I selected Quintessential New Age White wine and served it mixed with seltzer water, and a wedge of lime, over ice.  Each drink has 4.5% alcohol, so you can have 3 or 4 glasses of this refreshing blend and still be under the alcohol content of a single glass of big, bold cabernet.   And, surprise! The guys like it!

This Argentian wine is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Malvasia.  It has refreshing acidity with flavors of pear, lemon, and lime.   It pairs nicely with a buffet of summer salads and is a great compliment to spicy Mexican food.   Or, enjoy it all by itself.  At $8.99 per bottle it's a bargain - pick up a bottle and serve it at your next pool party!

Favorite Wine

I usually like the white wines, however, light reds are great also. Heavy reds only in the cold weather. That being said...... Wine is a personal preference not to be based on anyone else's taste. I drink most of my wine chilled, even the reds. My favorite is my own "Rolling Meadows Winery" riesling, and gwertzmeiner, made from grapes from my own vineyard. Making wine is interesting, especially when you use the fruit and not the kits. You are able to control the specific gravity, which controls the sweetness or dryness of the wine. Any fruit can be used to make wine. Recently I am making a batch (usually 25 bottles) of wine made from a friend's blackberrys, picked from his vines. We will see how it turns out.

What a treat!

Karla, these are fabulous. I served them before a dinner the other night and everyone loved the freshness. They all left with your recipe. Thanks.
